15 September 2025Equine Therapy for Veterans: A Shared Mission in Wales
Over the past eight years, we have witnessed first-hand the profound benefits that equine therapy can bring to veterans. The immediate positive outcomes are often remarkable, and while words cannot fully capture the experience, About Turn Wales are committed to ensuring this innovative form of support becomes more accessible to those who need it.
This journey would not have been possible without the inspiration and guidance of key individuals and organisations:
Richard “Taff” Teague – whose passion and commitment through his work with Horseback UK in Aberdeen highlighted the potential of equine therapy and encouraged us to explore its benefits for veterans here in Wales.
Paul Bromwell – a highly respected figure in the valleys, who has dedicated over 40 years to supporting veterans. Our visit to Valley Veterans, where equine therapy was already embedded in their programme, was instrumental in shaping our own approach. We are also grateful to Paul for introducing us to…
Dr. Donna Oldbury Thomas – whose Pony Power: Physical & Mental Health Project provides a truly holistic model. Combining physical health, education, biodiversity, and wildfire prevention skills, this initiative creates a unique environment for veteran wellbeing, About Turn Wales are honoured to be part of this important project.
Alan and Michelle at Riverside Retreat Veteran Camp – who provide an exceptional outdoor venue that allows us to deliver meaningful, high-quality experiences to veterans in a safe and supportive setting.
As veteran organisation, we recognise the importance of collaboration in creating sustainable, impactful support systems for veterans. By working together, we can offer more than just therapeutic activities – we can help foster resilience, wellbeing, and community through the transformative power of equine therapy.
